Samruddhi Expressway Traffic Disrupted for Two Hours After Container Truck Overturns

Traffic on the busy Mumbai-Nagpur lane of the Samruddhi Expressway came to a complete standstill for close to two hours on Sunday night following a serious accident involving a container truck. The incident occurred around 9 PM near Igatpuri, causing significant disruption to vehicular movement on this crucial highway.

Details of the Accident

According to Assistant Inspector Ram Vhonde of the highway police at the Ghoti Traffic Aid Post (TAP), the container truck was traveling towards Mumbai when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The truck veered to the other side of the expressway and overturned, falling sideways and blocking the entire road near Dhami village along the expressway corridor.

Emergency Response and Clearance Operations

As soon as the highway police received information about the overturned container, they immediately rushed to the accident spot. Recognizing that the container had completely obstructed the Nagpur-side lane, authorities deployed a crane to remove the heavy vehicle from the expressway. The clearance operation continued for approximately two hours as emergency teams worked diligently to restore normal traffic flow.

Assistant Inspector Vhonde confirmed that once the container was successfully removed, the Nagpur-bound lane of the Samruddhi Expressway was cleared for vehicular traffic. The prompt response by highway police helped minimize what could have been a much longer disruption on this vital transportation artery connecting Mumbai and Nagpur.

The Samruddhi Expressway, officially known as the Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, serves as a critical infrastructure project for Maharashtra's economic development. Incidents like Sunday night's accident highlight the importance of road safety measures and emergency preparedness on India's rapidly expanding expressway network.
