SC Stays Delhi Bar Council Poll Counting, Asks HC to Expedite

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the counting of votes for the Delhi Bar Council elections and directed the Delhi High Court to expedite the hearing on allegations of tampering. A bench comprising Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi passed the order while hearing a plea filed by Birender Sangwan and others. The petitioners had alleged irregularities and tampering in the election process, prompting the top court to intervene. The High Court has been asked to dispose of the matter expeditiously, preferably within four weeks. The counting process will remain on hold until further orders from the High Court. The case highlights concerns over the integrity of the electoral process in the Bar Council elections.
