A serious collision involving two private school buses left six people injured, including four children, on the Rohtak-Jind road near Lakhanmajra on Monday morning. The incident has sparked concerns over road safety and prompted immediate action from local authorities.
Details of the Morning Collision
The accident occurred at approximately 8 am near the Lakhanmajra bypass. According to police reports, a bus from a school in Bhagwatipur, carrying around 15 students, was attempting a U-turn at a road cut. At that moment, another bus from a school in Shahpur, Jind—reportedly hired for a marriage party—approached from the Rohtak side and rammed into it.
The impact was severe. The Bhagwatipur school bus overturned, while the front portion of the Shahpur bus sustained major damage. Passengers described scenes of panic and chaos, with children screaming for help in the aftermath of the crash.
Injuries and Official Response
Initial reports indicated about ten students received bruises and minor injuries. Most were treated at a local community health centre and discharged. However, four individuals required referral to the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak for further care.
Those shifted to PGIMS include two 11-year-olds from Budha Kheda village, Vanya and Abhi, along with 27-year-old Jyoti and another child, 11-year-old Himanshu. Medical officials have stated their condition is now stable. Both drivers, Jai Bhagwan of Boodha Kheda and Vinod of Shahpur, also sustained injuries in the accident.
Senior officials, including Deputy Commissioner Sachin Gupta and Rohtak Superintendent of Police Surender Singh, visited PGIMS to check on the injured. They directed doctors to ensure prompt and thorough treatment. SP Surender Singh has ordered a detailed probe and promised "strict action" against anyone found negligent.
Investigation and Road Safety Measures
Lakhanmajra Station House Officer Samarjeet Singh stated that preliminary accounts point towards rash and negligent driving by both bus drivers. A formal case has been registered, and police are currently recording statements from all involved parties.
In light of the accident, Rohtak police highlighted their ongoing efforts to monitor school bus safety. They revealed that over 250 school buses have been inspected this year alone. From these checks, 12 buses were challaned and one was impounded for violating prescribed safety and traffic norms. Officials issued a stern warning that school operators flouting rules would face stringent legal consequences.
This incident underscores the critical need for adherence to traffic regulations, especially when transporting children, and has reignited the debate on road safety measures in the region.
