A devastating road accident near the Khudda Lahora-Naya Gaon link road in Chandigarh resulted in one fatality and one injury on Tuesday afternoon. The incident occurred when a speeding white Scorpio collided head-on with a scooter, throwing both riders with tremendous force.

Violent Impact and Eyewitness Accounts

Eyewitnesses described the collision as extremely intense, with the impact sending the scooter flying into the middle of the Patiala Ki Rao river while one rider was thrown approximately 15 feet away, landing face down. The accident happened near a government school during afternoon hours, catching the attention of local residents who immediately rushed to assist.

The swift response from locals proved crucial as they not only provided immediate help but also managed to apprehend the Scorpio driver at the scene before police arrival. Authorities were promptly informed, and emergency services were dispatched to the location.

Medical Response and Fatal Outcome

Both injured individuals, identified as Manpreet Singh and Shivam, were quickly transported to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16, Chandigarh. Due to the severity of his injuries, Shivam was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh, where medical professionals declared him brought dead.

Tragically, Shivam, a resident of Naya Gaon, had recently purchased the scooter involved in the accident. The other victim, Manpreet Singh, received medical treatment for his injuries.

Legal Action and Investigation

Police have taken Manpreet Singh, a resident of Khudda Lahora, into custody as the accused driver in this case. Law enforcement authorities have impounded both damaged vehicles and launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.

An FIR has been registered at Sector 11 police station under sections 281, 125(A), and 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The formal complaint was filed by Sunil Kumar Singh, also a Naya Gaon resident, initiating legal proceedings against the responsible party.

This tragic incident highlights ongoing concerns about road safety in the area and serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of speeding and reckless driving.
