Second accused arrested in Jaipur murder case over money dispute

Jaipur: A day after the city police arrested a 46-year-old man for allegedly killing a building material trader, who was also his friend, over a monetary dispute, they arrested a second suspect in the case Tuesday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) Rajarshi Raj Varma said the police had arrested the prime accused, Sitaram Sharma, Monday in connection with the murder of Hari Shankar. Based on information obtained during Sitaram’s interrogation, police Tuesday arrested his brother-in-law, Sandeep Sharma, 43, for his alleged role in the crime.

According to Varma, Sitaram assaulted Hari Shankar by repeatedly kicking and punching him during an argument over money. Investigators alleged that Sitaram forcefully kicked the victim in his private parts and also inflicted head injuries, causing him to collapse and die on the spot.

Police said that after the killing, Sitaram and Sandeep allegedly hid the body in a fodder storage room and later attempted to dispose of it. On June 14, the two accused allegedly wrapped the body in a plastic sack and tarpaulin, placed it in the boot of a WagonR car borrowed from a friend on the pretext of transporting goods, and drove around various parts of Jaipur looking for a place to dispose of the body. However, they were unable to get rid of the body.

The matter came to light when their friend Kuldeep Sharma learned about the incident and informed the police. A special police team was subsequently formed, which tracked down and arrested the accused.

During the probe, Sitaram’s inability to repay the debt was found to be the motive behind the murder. He told investigators that he and his brother-in-law, Sandeep Sharma, killed Hari Shankar over the dispute, police said. Further investigation is on.
