In a major security overhaul, forces in Jammu and Kashmir have ramped up vigilance across the Kashmir Valley. This move comes in anticipation of the festive period encompassing New Year and Christmas, and extends to the upcoming Republic Day celebrations.
Heightened Vigilance on Highways and Vital Installations
Security has been significantly tightened along the crucial Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, a key arterial road connecting the valley to the rest of the country. Simultaneously, a robust security blanket has been thrown around sensitive and vital installations in the capital city, Srinagar, and other parts of the Valley.
Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) are actively conducting coordinated "area security and anti-sabotage" drills. These operations are designed to preempt any potential threats and ensure the safety of public spaces and infrastructure.
Search Operations in City Centre
Reflecting the heightened alert, a detailed search operation was carried out in the bustling city centre of Lal Chowk in Srinagar on Tuesday. During this operation, police personnel thoroughly frisked pedestrians and meticulously checked the documents of two-wheeler riders to verify identities and prevent any untoward incident.
Terror Associate Arrested in Awantipora
In a related development that underscores the ongoing security efforts, police arrested a suspected terrorist associate in the Awantipora area on Monday evening. The arrest was made during a joint operation conducted by the police and other security forces.
The police official identified the arrested individual as Javid Ahmad Hajam, a resident of Gulab Bagh Tral. A subsequent search of his possession led to the recovery of illicit arms and ammunition.
"During the search, one pistol and five live rounds of ammunition was recovered from his possession," stated the police. Authorities further revealed that Hajam is allegedly involved in providing crucial logistics support and facilitating the transportation of arms and ammunition to active terrorists operating in the Awantipora area.
Ensuring a Secure Environment
The combined strategy of visible area domination, proactive searches, and targeted intelligence-based operations aims to create a secure environment for the citizens during the festive season and the national holiday. These measures are part of a standard annual drill but have been emphasized this year to deter any attempts at disruption.
The recovery of weapons and the arrest of a logistics provider highlight the continued focus of security agencies on choking the supply lines of terrorist groups. The public is advised to cooperate with security checks and remain vigilant, contributing to the collective safety of the region.
