Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have initiated a large-scale search and combing operation in Udhampur district. This action comes after reports that unidentified terrorists entered a village, took food from a resident, and subsequently escaped into a dense forest area.
Incident Details: Terrorists Visit Village House
According to officials, the incident occurred in Chore Motu village within the Majalta region. On Saturday evening, around 6:30 PM, two unidentified terrorists reportedly visited the house of a local resident, Mangtu Ram. The intruders took food from the household before fleeing the scene. Intelligence agencies received an input about this late on Saturday evening, prompting an immediate security response.
Security Response and Ongoing Combing Operation
Soon after receiving the critical intelligence, a joint team of police and paramilitary personnel was rushed to the area. However, upon reaching the spot, the security forces found that the terrorists had already escaped. The location is approximately five kilometres west of a recent encounter site in Soan village.
Following the initial response, the security forces cordoned off the extensive forest belt surrounding Chore Motu village. In the early hours of Sunday morning, a large-scale combing operation was launched from multiple directions. The primary objective of this operation is to trace and neutralise the terrorists who are believed to be hiding in the forested terrain.
Context: Link to Recent Deadly Encounter
This latest security operation comes just days after a deadly encounter in the same Majalta area. On December 15, a policeman lost his life during a gunfight with terrorists in Soan village. Security forces had engaged the terrorists based on information about the movement of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) operatives in the region. In that incident, the terrorists managed to flee, leveraging thick foliage and the cover of darkness to their advantage.
The current search in Udhampur underscores the ongoing security challenges in the region, with forces remaining on high alert to prevent any further threats and apprehend the individuals involved in these activities.
