In a major security initiative, the Jammu and Kashmir Police, in conjunction with other security forces, have initiated a comprehensive joint operation spanning from the International Border (IB) to the mountainous terrain along the Line of Control (LoC). This sweeping action, launched to eliminate any possibility of terrorist infiltration, comes in response to specific intelligence inputs.
Intel Points to Infiltration Threat
The extensive search and area domination exercise was triggered by intelligence reports indicating a potential threat. The inputs suggested that terrorists might attempt to infiltrate into Indian territory by taking advantage of the prevailing foggy conditions. This concern is amplified by a sudden surge in activities at terror launch pads located across the border in Pakistan.
A senior BSF officer had revealed last month that Pakistan has reactivated nearly 72 terror launch pads opposite Jammu province. These pads, set up in depth areas close to the border, include 12 in the Sialkot and Zafarwal sectors near the IB and another 60 across the LoC. This reactivation comes roughly seven months after Pakistan's defence infrastructure suffered significant damage during India's Operation Sindoor.
Widespread Search Operations Underway
The security net has been cast over a vast geographical area. The ongoing searches cover numerous locations to ensure complete area domination.
In the Jammu region, the operation is focused on areas including Pansar, Maniyari, Paharpur, Tappan, Mareed, Tarnah nallah, Bain nallah, Kishanpur Kandi, Rukh-e-Sarkar, Chak Chabbey, and Dolka Samyal. Additionally, searches are being conducted in the Samba district at Babar Nallah, Paloora, Treyal, Mansar, and Chilla Danga. The Akhnoor sector in Jammu district, specifically Pragwal and its adjoining areas, is also under scrutiny.
In the border district of Rajouri, security forces have been carrying out massive search operations since the early hours of Friday. These operations are targeting various villages within the Thanamandi and Manjakote sub-divisions.
Parallel Move: Online Portal for Tenant Verification
In a related development aimed at strengthening internal security, the Jammu police have launched a digital initiative to monitor movement in urban areas. On Saturday, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, inaugurated an online tenant verification portal named "Kirayedar."
This portal is designed to help authorities keep track of anti-national and anti-social elements who might seek refuge in Jammu city or its outskirts. It enables landlords to easily report details of new tenants renting their premises to the concerned police station, creating an additional layer of vigilance.
The simultaneous launch of a wide-ranging border operation and an urban monitoring tool underscores a multi-pronged strategy by security and police forces in Jammu and Kashmir to address security challenges from both external and internal dimensions.
