Security Guard Posing as WCL Officer Dupes Two Families

Nagpur: A security guard allegedly posing as a senior Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) official has duped two families of over Rs 31 lakh by promising jobs, police said.

Case Registered Against Accused

Mankapur Police have registered a case against Ajit Jinna, the alleged mastermind, and his associates Amol Jirafe and Vaibhav Surjuse on a complaint filed by Govardhan Warthi (56), a resident of Godhani.

Modus Operandi

According to police, Ajit introduced himself to Warthi as a WCL manager and promised a job to his daughter. He allegedly collected Rs 17 lakh through RTGS and online transfers made to Vaibhav's bank account. Amol is accused of visiting Warthi's residence while posing as a WCL officer. The trio allegedly furnished forged letters bearing official-looking signatures and stamps. Trusting the documents, Warthi even got his daughter medically examined at a private hospital as part of the purported recruitment process.

Suspicions Arise

Suspicions arose when no appointment order was issued. On enquiring at WCL's Jaripatka office, Warthi learnt that Ajit was employed there as a security guard and not an officer.

Second Victim

Police said the same gang similarly cheated Shubham Margade and his younger brother of Rs 14 lakh using forged documents and false assurances of employment. The accused allegedly defrauded the two families between June 13 and Dec 18, 2023.

Legal Action

A case has been registered under Sections 419, 465, 468, 471, 506 and 34 of the IPC.
