Security has been significantly tightened at the Bhojshala complex in Madhya Pradesh ahead of Friday prayers, with authorities deploying over 2,000 police personnel to ensure peace and order. The move comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the site, which holds religious significance for both Hindus and Muslims.
Massive Police Deployment
According to officials, more than 2,000 police personnel, including additional forces from neighboring districts, have been stationed at strategic points around the Bhojshala. The deployment includes rapid action force teams and riot control units to handle any potential unrest.
Precautionary Measures
The administration has imposed Section 144 in the vicinity, prohibiting the assembly of four or more people. Barricades have been erected, and entry and exit points are being closely monitored. Authorities have urged both communities to maintain peace and refrain from spreading rumors.
Local police officials stated that the security arrangement is purely precautionary and aimed at preventing any untoward incident during the Friday prayers, which often see a large congregation. The Bhojshala has been a flashpoint in the past, with disputes over access and worship rights.
Background of the Dispute
The Bhojshala complex, believed to be an ancient temple, is currently a subject of legal and communal contention. While Hindus claim it as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, Muslims assert it as a mosque named Kamal Maula. The site is currently under the protection of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which allows limited prayers for both communities on specific days.
In recent months, the issue has gained political traction, with various groups demanding unrestricted access. The Madhya Pradesh High Court is currently hearing a petition seeking permission for daily prayers by Hindus at the site.
Government's Stance
State government officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to maintain law and order. A senior police officer said, "Our primary objective is to ensure that no untoward incident occurs. We have made adequate arrangements and are in constant touch with community leaders."
The district administration has also appealed to the public to cooperate with security forces and avoid any provocative actions. Additional forces will remain deployed until the situation normalizes.
This development comes amid a series of similar security measures at sensitive religious sites across the state, reflecting the government's proactive approach to communal harmony.
