The makers of 'The Breakfast Club' have announced that the popular iHeartMedia morning show, hosted by Charlamagne Tha God, DJ Envy, and Jess Hilarious, will begin streaming live on Netflix every weekday starting June 1, according to CNN. This marks a significant milestone as 'The Breakfast Club' becomes Netflix's first daily live program, reflecting the streaming platform's increasing focus on live content.
Exclusive Live Content
Under a previous agreement between Netflix and iHeartMedia, Netflix was already the exclusive streaming home for the video version of 'The Breakfast Club,' with full episodes available after the radio broadcast. However, the new live stream will differ from the radio version. While the show will continue to air on Power 105.1/WWPR-FM and be syndicated by Premiere Networks, Netflix's live stream will utilize the radio show's commercial breaks to deliver additional content. This includes bonus segments, behind-the-scenes moments, extended interviews, and original material, offering viewers an uninterrupted experience.
Reactions from Hosts and Netflix
Charlamagne Tha God expressed enthusiasm about the move, stating, 'The media landscape will always evolve, but one thing consistently cuts through: live programming. That's a big reason 'The Breakfast Club' has sustained its reign for so long. We're building something powerful, real-time conversation, real community, on a global scale.' Lauren Smith, Netflix's vice president of content licensing and programming strategy, highlighted the importance of this step for the platform, calling it a key development in Netflix's live content strategy.
Netflix's Growing Live Content Portfolio
'The Breakfast Club' is not Netflix's first live offering. The platform has previously streamed 'The Bill Simmons Podcast' live on Sunday nights and has invested in NFL games, live comedy shows, and other live events. Netflix is also expanding its focus on video podcasts, a domain where YouTube remains dominant. The company has announced podcast-related deals with iHeartMedia, Spotify, and Barstool Sports, along with projects featuring prominent personalities like Pete Davidson and Brian Williams.
