Senior Citizen Brutally Murdered in Ghatkopar
A 65-year-old retired railway employee was brutally beaten to death in Ghatkopar on Thursday night following what police suspect began as an argument with another person. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised concerns about public safety.
Victim Identified as Retired Railway Employee
The deceased has been identified as Surendra Pachadkar (65), a retired railway employee who resided in Vikhroli. According to Senior Inspector Satish Jadhav of Ghatkopar police station, Pachadkar had a regular evening routine of taking a walk to Ghatkopar station after dinner.
On the fateful Thursday night, Pachadkar followed his usual routine and walked to Ghatkopar station, eventually reaching the CGS lane near the railway station. It was at this location that the tragic incident unfolded.
Violent Altercation Leads to Tragedy
As per the initial police investigation, Pachadkar got into a physical altercation with another individual at the CGS lane. The confrontation escalated rapidly, with both men allegedly exchanging blows.
The situation turned fatal when the accused person allegedly picked up an iron rod and struck Pachadkar on the head with tremendous force. The brutal attack proved immediately fatal, and the perpetrator fled the scene, leaving the senior citizen critically injured on the road.
Police Investigation Underway
Local residents discovered Pachadkar lying injured on the road and immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital. However, doctors declared him dead upon arrival, confirming the severity of the injuries sustained during the attack.
The Ghatkopar police were promptly alerted about the incident and have registered a murder case. Police sources have confirmed that one person has been detained in connection with the crime, although officially the police maintain that their search for the perpetrator continues.
Investigators are currently exploring multiple angles to determine the exact motive behind the violent attack. Initial information suggests the altercation may have begun when the accused and Pachadkar accidentally brushed against each other's shoulders while walking, leading to an argument that quickly turned violent.
However, police are also considering other possibilities. A police source revealed that since the lane where the incident occurred is relatively isolated and there have been thefts reported in the area previously, investigators are examining whether this could have been a robbery attempt that went wrong.
The Ghatkopar police continue their thorough investigation into the matter, examining all evidence and witness statements to establish the complete sequence of events and ensure justice is served.
