Ahmedabad: A senior citizen was taken into custody by the city police on Friday after an 11-year-old girl was allegedly molested. The incident came to light when the girl's mother reached out to the Abhayam 181 women helpline for assistance.
Helpline Responds Promptly
A counsellor from the helpline stated, "The caller informed us that her daughter was profusely crying after being molested. A team immediately reached the residence along with a police team. The girl was counselled and questioned, during which she revealed that she had gone to a nearby shop to buy snacks in the afternoon. While returning home, a man aged around 70 years called her over."
The Alleged Incident
According to the counsellor, the man allegedly pulled the girl inside his house and molested her. However, when the man's relative arrived home, he quickly sent the girl out. When the girl's angry family members confronted him, they found the house locked.
Nearby residents also informed the team that the man had a history of inappropriately touching women. The accused was traced and taken to the police station. As the girl's father filed an FIR, the man was detained under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Legal Action Taken
The police have registered a case under POCSO and are investigating further. The accused remains in custody as the legal process unfolds.
