A tragic accident in Gwalior claimed the life of a 92-year-old man on Friday afternoon. The elderly victim, Girraj Prasad Sharma, was fatally crushed when a dumper truck laden with gravel overturned right outside his residence.
Sunny Afternoon Turns Fatal
The incident occurred in the Arnav Green City locality. Girraj Prasad Sharma, a nonagenarian originally from Bharatpur, was enjoying the winter sun, seated on the platform outside his home. In a horrifying turn of events, a passing dumper's rear wheel suddenly sank into the road surface. This caused the heavy vehicle to lose its balance and topple over, trapping the elderly man beneath its weight.
Rescue Efforts and Aftermath
Sharma remained pinned under the vehicle for close to an hour before rescue machinery could be deployed. Locals quickly alerted the police, and a crane was brought to the scene to lift the dumper. The seriously injured man was rushed to the trauma centre at Jayarogya Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
CCTV footage from a neighbouring house captured the entire sequence of the accident. Following the mishap, the dumper driver and his cleaner abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot. The police have seized the truck and registered a case. A search operation is currently underway to locate and apprehend the absconding individuals.
A Life Remembered
Girraj Prasad Sharma had been living with his grandson, Satish Sharma, for the past seven to eight years. Satish, who works at a private factory, resides in Arnav Green City with his wife and children. After the completion of post-mortem formalities, family members proceeded to Bharatpur with Sharma's body for the last rites.
This devastating event has highlighted grave concerns about road safety and the movement of heavy vehicles in residential areas. The local community is in shock over the sudden and violent loss of a respected senior citizen.
