A 49-year-old senior officer attached to a credit cooperative society passed away nearly three weeks after sustaining severe head injuries in a road accident on the Eastern Express Highway near the Airoli Bridge landing. The Navghar police have registered a case against the accused driver for causing death by negligence and rash driving.
Accident Details
According to the complaint lodged by Shrikant Shinde, an 18-year-old student from Kalbadevi, the accident occurred on April 29. Shinde was riding a scooter along with Sunil Pisal from Mulund East towards Byculla. Pisal, a senior officer with Gyandeep Patsanstha, had attended a convention organized by the institution in Mulund East. Since Shinde’s mother, who works for the same organization, was unwell, Shinde accompanied Pisal to the event.
Collision and Injuries
At around 5:30 pm, shortly after descending the Airoli Bridge on the southbound arm of the Eastern Express Highway, a four-wheeler allegedly driven at high speed rammed into the left side of the scooter. The impact caused both riders to fall. Shinde sustained injuries to both hands, while Pisal suffered severe head injuries. The driver of the car and bystanders present at the spot initially rushed them to Adi Arogya Hospital in Kannamwar Nagar, Vikhroli East.
Medical Treatment and Demise
Pisal was later shifted to Jaslok Hospital at Peddar Road for advanced treatment. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on May 20. The complainant alleged that the accident was due to rash and negligent driving by the driver of the four-wheeler, identified as Pandurang Sawant, who was allegedly driving the vehicle. Further investigation is underway.
