In a joint operation conducted on Friday evening, a team comprising Delhi Police and Ballia Police rescued at least seven girls, six of whom are minors, from a spa centre located near Malgodaam Crossing in Ballia. The operation was initiated after Delhi Police traced a missing girl who allegedly facilitated the trafficking of another girl from Delhi to a spa in Gujarat.
Details of the Raid
Ballia City Magistrate (CO) Mohd Usman stated on Saturday that the Delhi Police, acting on a case registered at the Ambedkar Nagar police station in New Delhi, conducted a search at the spa centre with the assistance of Ballia’s Kotwali police. During the raid, seven girls were rescued. Usman confirmed that the rescued individuals have been sent to the district’s One Stop Centre, and further legal proceedings and investigations are currently underway.
Background of the Case
According to officials, the Delhi Police had been investigating the disappearance of a girl and successfully rescued her from Gujarat. During interrogation, the victim revealed that another girl, who had taken her to the spa in Gujarat, was now employed at a spa in Ballia. This crucial information led the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit to take immediate action, and a Delhi Police team arrived in Ballia on Friday.
The team conducted nearly six hours of questioning, recording statements from all rescued girls, as well as the spa centre’s manager and staff. The interrogation uncovered a network of human traffickers allegedly supplying girls to spa centres that have been proliferating across the country.
Ongoing Investigation
Police officials have stated that the scope of the investigation is being widened to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the trafficking network. The rescued girls are receiving necessary support and care at the One Stop Centre, while authorities continue to gather evidence and build a case against the perpetrators.
This incident highlights the persistent issue of human trafficking in India, particularly the exploitation of minors in the guise of legitimate businesses. Law enforcement agencies are working diligently to dismantle such networks and bring the culprits to justice.
