Sexual Assault Accused Injured in Police Encounter in Etawah

A youth accused of sexually assaulting a minor girl was injured in a police encounter after attempting to escape in Etawah on Saturday night. The 22-year-old suspect had been detained for sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the Badhpura police station area of Etawah district on Saturday afternoon.

Details of the Incident

According to police officials, the accused lured the victim, the daughter of a brick kiln labourer, with mangoes and took her to a secluded location. Villagers caught the suspect at the scene after the child's family was alerted by another child who had been with the victim.

Police Response

CO Ayushi Singh stated that the girl was picking mangoes with another child on Saturday afternoon when the accused lured her with more mangoes to a secluded area near a private school and sexually assaulted her. The accompanying child ran to inform the family. The victim's family, along with villagers, rushed to the site, found the girl injured, caught the accused while he was trying to escape, and informed the police.

SP City Abhay Nath Tripathi and CO Jaswantnagar Ayushi Singh arrived with police force and sent the victim to the hospital for examination. Under the guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police Brijesh Kumar Srivastava, a case was filed under the POCSO Act, and the suspect was detained.

Encounter and Arrest

During questioning, the accused confessed to the crime and disclosed that he had hidden clothing and other evidence near the Kamet canal area. When a police team led by Inspector-in-charge Narendra Mishra went to retrieve the evidence on Saturday night, the suspect seized sub-inspector Kuldeep Singh's pistol and fired at the police in an attempt to escape. In retaliatory action, the accused was injured and arrested, said the CO. He was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

Police seized an official pistol, two spent 9mm cartridges, clothing, and other evidence of the crime. Further legal proceedings are underway.
