Sheikhpura Police Mandates Body Cameras for All Personnel to Boost Transparency
In a significant move to enhance transparency and bolster public trust, the Sheikhpura district police in Bihar has mandated that all personnel must wear body cameras during field duties. This directive was issued by Superintendent of Police (SP) Baliram Kumar Choudhary, following the appointment of Additional Director General of Police (ADG) Amit Lodha as the nodal officer for the district.
New Directive for Digital Accountability
Addressing a monthly crime review meeting on Saturday, SP Choudhary emphasized that all police personnel are required to wear body cameras whenever they leave police stations for routine work, raids, and patrolling. This measure aims to ensure that police actions are digitally recorded, promoting accountability and reducing potential disputes.
The SP stated, "This step is crucial for maintaining transparency in our operations and building stronger trust with the community."
Enhanced Policing Protocols
In addition to the body camera mandate, Choudhary introduced several other measures to improve policing efficiency. He instructed all Station House Officers (SHOs) to conduct daily briefings with their teams, prepare detailed task lists, and ensure the effective execution of assigned duties. This structured approach is expected to streamline operations and enhance responsiveness.
Emphasizing prompt policing, the SP directed officers to respond immediately to criminal incidents and prioritize the speedy execution of court-issued summons and warrants. Regular monitoring of these activities will be implemented to ensure compliance and timely action.
Focus on Technology-Driven Policing
Choudhary underscored the importance of strengthening technology-driven policing by regularly updating data on digital platforms introduced under new criminal laws. Special attention was given to key applications such as:
- Vatsalya: Used for uploading details and photographs of missing minors.
- Pratibimb: Enables tracking of cybercriminals across the country.
- ITSO: Officers must consistently update data on crimes against minors, including sexual offences, and share it among police units.
- e-Sakshya Portal: Investigation details should be regularly uploaded to reinforce evidence-based and technology-driven policing.
These initiatives are part of a broader effort to modernize law enforcement and ensure that policing is both efficient and accountable.
Addressing Pending Cases
The SP also called for the fast-tracking of investigations that have been pending for over a year. He stressed the need for early submission of charge sheets to ensure that justice is delivered without unnecessary delays. This focus on clearing backlog cases is aimed at improving the overall effectiveness of the judicial process.
With these comprehensive measures, the Sheikhpura police are taking proactive steps to enhance transparency, leverage technology, and build public confidence in law enforcement.
