Shimla ASI Suspended for Kicking Taxi Driver During VVIP Visit

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Shimla has been suspended following a viral video that captured him kicking a taxi driver during a VVIP movement. The incident occurred on Friday near Tavi Mod under the Boileauganj police station limits, where ASI Pyar Chand was deployed for duty during the President's visit.

Details of the Incident

The ASI instructed a local taxi driver, Ashish Kumar, to clear vehicles parked along the roadside. Kumar responded that he was alone and could move only one vehicle at a time, leading to a heated argument. The situation escalated when the officer threatened to issue a challan. As the taxi driver began recording the exchange and attempted to capture the police officer's nameplate, the ASI allegedly kicked him.

Police Response and Action

Gaurav Singh, Superintendent of Police, Shimla, confirmed that the ASI was seen using "excessive and inappropriate force." The ASI was immediately suspended, and departmental proceedings were initiated under a zero-tolerance policy. "The misconduct will invite strict action," the SP added.
