The Shimla district police, as part of a special anti-drug campaign, have arrested two drug suppliers from Punjab and Uttar Pradesh after establishing backward linkages in separate drug cases. This initiative aims to dismantle the supply chain of illegal narcotics in the region.
Arrest in Rohru Police Station Case
In a case registered at Rohru police station, the police recovered 190 banned nitrazepam tablets from two individuals. Following a thorough investigation, the supply chain was traced to a Lucknow-based chemist shop operator, Ahmar Brijas, aged 32. He was subsequently arrested on May 17 for allegedly supplying restricted medicines without valid prescriptions. The police also initiated action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act against him.
Arrest in Sadar Shimla Police Station Case
In another case registered at Sadar Shimla police station, the police seized 10.30 grams of heroin from two Punjab residents. During the investigation, the supplier was identified as 22-year-old Akashdeep, also known as Akash, from the Ferozepur district near the India-Pakistan border. Akashdeep was arrested from Jalalabad in Punjab on May 19.
Significant Increase in Arrests and Network Dismantling
The Shimla police reported that so far this year, 39 accused individuals have been arrested through backward linkage investigations. This marks a ninefold increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, 30 interstate and international drug trafficking networks have been dismantled, showcasing the effectiveness of the ongoing anti-drug campaign.
