Shimla Police Conduct Major Anti-Narcotics Operation, Seize 288 Grams of Heroin
In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Shimla police announced on Thursday that they have made the largest heroin seizure of the year. The operation, which took place on March 24, resulted in the recovery of 288 grams of the illicit substance, commonly known as 'chitta,' from the Shimla Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT).

The seizure was carried out by a special cell team as part of an ongoing anti-narcotics campaign aimed at curbing the spread of drugs in the region. Acting on a specific tip-off, police officers intercepted a suspect on the first floor of the ISBT. The individual was allegedly attempting to sell the contraband to local youth, highlighting the targeted nature of the operation to prevent drug abuse among vulnerable populations.
Arrest and Recovery Details
The accused has been identified as Shamshad Ahmed, a 42-year-old resident of Ambala district in Haryana. During the interception, a thorough search of his carry bag led to the discovery of the heroin consignment. This recovery marks a critical blow to drug peddling activities in the area, with authorities emphasizing the importance of such operations in maintaining public safety.
Legal Proceedings and Investigation
Following the arrest, an FIR was registered under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Boileauganj police station. The accused was produced before a court on March 25, where he was remanded to six days of police custody. This custody period will allow investigators to conduct a detailed interrogation to uncover further details about the case.
