Political Intervention

The statement further claimed that workers from the Shiv Sena faction led by Shinde located the accused, administered a beating, and subsequently handed him over to the Vartak Nagar Police. Deputy Chief Minister Shinde was quoted as stating, "If a person is brutally assaulted merely for pointing out that someone is littering, it will not be accepted at any cost." He directed Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre to invoke Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against the accused.

Police Response

However, police officials have clarified that no case has been registered yet. The injured elderly man has not approached the police or filed a formal complaint as of now. The incident has garnered significant attention in Thane, which is considered a political stronghold for Shinde.
