Shivamogga Police Crack Murder Case, Arrest Relative in Anganwadi Helper's Death
In a significant breakthrough, Shivamogga district police have unraveled the mystery surrounding the tragic death of a 53-year-old anganwadi helper in Bilaki village, located in Shikaripura taluk. The investigation culminated in the arrest of a distant relative, bringing closure to a case that had shocked the local community.
Discovery of the Crime Scene
Prema Madiwala, a widow who lived alone and worked as a cook at a local anganwadi center, was found dead under highly suspicious circumstances inside her rented house on February 14. The grim discovery was made after she failed to respond to calls from her colleagues, prompting concerned neighbors to check on her well-being. Upon entering, they encountered a horrific scene: while the front gates and doors were securely locked, the back door stood open, and Prema's body was discovered naked in a pool of blood, indicating a violent struggle.
Key Breakthrough in the Investigation
The investigation took a critical turn when a neighbor came forward with a crucial piece of information. The witness reported seeing a masked man fleeing the scene on a motorcycle around 11 PM on February 13, several hours before Prema's body was found. Initially, police had dismissed this detail, considering it might involve a visiting relative, but this lead proved instrumental for the Shiralakoppa police team. Under the leadership of Circle Inspector Santhosh Patil and Police Sub-Inspector Prashanth, authorities tracked down and apprehended the suspect.
Arrest and Suspect Details
The arrested individual has been identified as 23-year-old Raghavendra, also known as Kodihalli Raghavendra or Raghu, a resident of Kodihalli in Bengaluru. Shivamogga Superintendent of Police B. Nikhil confirmed the arrest, noting that Raghavendra was acquainted with the victim. He had recently returned from his workplace in Bengaluru, adding to the suspicion surrounding his involvement. According to police sources, Raghu claimed that Prema died during a physical altercation between them. However, investigators suspect he murdered her and then fled the scene to evade capture.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
Following a formal complaint filed by the victim's son, Manoj, the accused was arrested and presented before a local court. The court has remanded him to judicial custody as the legal process unfolds. Police are now awaiting final medical and forensic reports to conclusively determine the exact cause of death, which will be pivotal in building a strong case against the suspect. This arrest underscores the diligent efforts of the Shivamogga police in addressing violent crimes and ensuring justice for victims in rural areas.
