Tragic Poisoning Incident Claims Life in Sirsa Village
A devastating suspected poisoning case, reportedly stemming from a family dispute, resulted in the death of a 35-year-old man and left his wife in critical condition in Sirsa district on Wednesday night. The incident unfolded at Jawahar Colony in Chautala village, which is notably the ancestral village of former Deputy Prime Minister Tau Devi Lal.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
The deceased has been identified as Subhash, while his wife, Sunita, was rushed to a private hospital in Hanumangarh, Rajasthan, where she continues to receive intensive medical treatment. According to local villagers, the couple allegedly consumed a poisonous substance late at night. Subhash succumbed on the spot, whereas Sunita was discovered unconscious but with signs of life.
The couple leaves behind four sons and one daughter, with the eldest child being just 12 years old. In a particularly distressing turn of events, residents reported that before ingesting the poison, Subhash assaulted his two younger children, causing injuries that required first aid at a hospital.
Background and Circumstances
Subhash had been cultivating a portion of land owned by a local farmer and had resided with his family on the farm for the past five years. Villagers suggested that he might have been influenced by certain religious superstitions, although the precise motivation behind this extreme step remains unclear and under investigation.
Emergency Response and Police Action
As the couple's condition worsened, their 12-year-old son ran approximately four to five acres to the house of a nearby farmer to alert him about the incident. The farmer promptly notified the landowner and dialed the emergency helpline 112. By the time the landowner's son arrived at the scene, Subhash had already passed away, but Sunita's pulse was still detectable.
She was initially taken to a hospital in Sangaria and later referred to Hanumangarh due to her critical state. Upon receiving information, a police team reached the location and transferred the body to the mortuary of the government hospital in Dabwali.
