Sisters Critically Injured in Gurgaon After Being Set on Fire by Sister-in-Law
In a shocking incident in Gurgaon, two sisters were left with critical burn injuries after their sister-in-law allegedly set them on fire following a family dispute. The attack occurred on Friday in Dabua Colony, with police confirming the arrest of the accused, identified as Pinky.
Details of the Attack
The sisters, Meena and Seema, were standing on the rooftop of their house around 5 pm when Pinky arrived carrying petrol. According to police reports, Pinky poured the petrol on both women and ignited it with a matchstick. As flames engulfed them, the sisters ran downstairs screaming for help, alerting neighbors to the horrific scene.
Immediate Response and Medical Treatment
Neighbors quickly rushed to the spot, extinguished the fire, and transported the injured sisters to a nearby hospital. Initial medical assessments revealed severe burns, with one sister suffering approximately 60% burns and the other sustaining nearly 90% burns. They were first admitted to a private hospital in Faridabad but were later referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi as their condition deteriorated. Subsequently, the family moved them to a hospital in Jaipur for further treatment.
Background and Motive
Police and family members indicated that Pinky was upset over the close relationship the sisters shared with her husband, Vedbir. The sisters lived with their families on separate floors of the same building, while Pinky resided with her husband and children in Dabua Chowk. A police officer noted, "The accused had frequent arguments with them. The sisters shared a strong bond, and the accused felt insecure." Although the exact motive is still under investigation, this insecurity is believed to have fueled the attack.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
After a neighbor alerted the police control room, teams including senior officers arrived at the scene to record statements from the family and witnesses. Police spokesperson Yashpal Yadav stated that Pinky has been arrested and booked under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Yadav added, "We are yet to ascertain the exact cause behind the crime, but the accused has been arrested and booked for attempting to murder her sisters-in-law." An investigation is currently underway to gather more details and ensure justice is served.
