Sitapur Resident Killed in Riyadh Missile Strike, Body Repatriated to Native Village
The body of Ravi Gopal, a 26-year-old resident of Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh, who was tragically killed in a missile attack in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, on March 18, arrived at his native village on Wednesday. The somber return of his remains sparked profound scenes of mourning, with family members breaking down in sorrow and villagers assembling in large numbers to pay their final respects.
Details of the Incident and Victim's Background
Ravi Gopal, a resident of Baghain village under the Mahmoodabad police station area, approximately 75 kilometers from the district headquarters, had been working in Riyadh for the past three years. He was employed as a driver at a plastic factory, which was struck by a missile, leading to his untimely death. According to family members, Ravi had previously worked in Riyadh for two years before returning home, only to go back again in September 2025 in search of better livelihood opportunities.
He is survived by his father Lavneet Kumar, mother Baijanti Devi, elder brother Manmohan, wife Rita Devi, and a four-year-old son. The body was transported from Riyadh to Lucknow airport on Wednesday morning after the completion of all necessary formalities. From there, it was conveyed by ambulance to his native village, where a large crowd of villagers and people from nearby areas gathered to offer their condolences.

As the body reached Baghain, emotional turmoil gripped the community. Ravi's wife was inconsolable, repeatedly breaking down upon seeing the body, while his parents were also overwhelmed with grief. The last rites were performed in a field near the village, where his elder brother lit the funeral pyre in the presence of family members, villagers, and local officials.

Manmohan, the deceased's brother, revealed that local MLA Asha Maurya had spoken to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, seeking expedited arrangements for the repatriation of the body. The grieving family expressed deep gratitude to the state administration and public representatives for their crucial support in facilitating the return of Ravi's body to his homeland.
