Six Arrested for Patliputra Station Violence Amid Exam Rush

Patna: The Government Railway Police (GRP) in Patna on Sunday arrested six individuals in connection with the violence, stone-pelting, and disruption of train services at Patliputra railway station. The incident occurred late Saturday night as large numbers of students gathered to travel for examinations.

Arrests and Investigation

The GRP stated that the six arrested were directly involved in rioting and stone-pelting. “Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend other persons involved in the violence using available evidence and surveillance footage,” officials said in a statement. An FIR has been registered, and the investigation is ongoing. Police emphasized that strict action would be taken against those responsible for attacking security personnel, damaging public property, and disrupting railway operations.

Railway Administration's Account

Presenting the railway administration’s version, East Central Railway CPRO Saraswati Chandra said adequate arrangements had been made for candidates. “Large numbers of students gathered at Patliputra railway station after 11:30 PM to travel towards Katihar and other destinations for the examination. Many had already boarded the Seemanchal Express, and there was sufficient space available on the train. Despite this, some people created a disturbance,” he said.

Chandra added that a special train was stationed at Patliputra at around 2:30 AM, and repeated announcements were made for candidates to board it. “The disruption was not caused by train delays,” he clarified.

Authorities continue to review surveillance footage to identify additional suspects, and further arrests are expected.
