Six Arrested in Tonk After Communal Clash in Deshwali Mohalla

Police in Tonk city have taken swift action following a communal clash that erupted on Friday night in Deshwali Mohalla, located under the Purani Tonk police station. Officials confirmed the arrest of six individuals and the registration of two separate cases in response to the incident, which involved stone-pelting between two communities.

Details of the Clash and Police Response

According to Tonk Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar Meena, the altercation began when some boys from a particular community were fighting in Valmiki Basti. Local residents intervened to reprimand them, leading to a confrontation. Family members and others from a minority community then arrived at the scene, escalating the situation into stone-pelting between the two groups. Police reported that several people sustained minor injuries during the clash.

In the aftermath, police conducted a flag march in Deshwali Mohalla and surrounding areas, deploying a heavy force to ensure peace and prevent further violence. Tonk Additional Superintendent of Police Ratan Lal Bhargav made a public appeal, urging residents not to pay heed to rumours and to maintain calm.

Legal Actions and Community Impact

SP Rajesh Kumar Meena detailed the legal measures taken, stating that one case was registered by police for obstruction of government work, while another was filed on behalf of the Valmiki community. Six individuals from a specific community were arrested, and investigations are currently underway. Notably, no case has been filed from the minority community's side so far.

This incident marks the second occurrence of assault and stone-pelting between communities in the Purani Tonk police station area within the last four days. In response to Friday's clash, the Valmiki community has decided to cease cleaning work in Deshwali Mohalla, highlighting the broader social tensions and disruptions caused by the violence.

Police continue to monitor the situation closely, emphasizing their commitment to maintaining law and order in the region. The community's decision to halt services underscores the need for ongoing dialogue and preventive measures to address underlying issues and prevent future conflicts.
