Six Individuals Booked for Allegedly Obstructing Woman Police Officer in Chintamani
Chintamani Rural Police have taken legal action against six persons following an incident where they allegedly obstructed a woman sub-inspector during her official duties. The case stems from a late-night patrol conducted on Saturday, highlighting tensions between law enforcement and local residents.
Late-Night Patrol Leads to Confrontation
According to police reports, Sub-Inspector Nagamma was on routine patrol near the Chintamani–Bengaluru road when she noticed a hotel operating beyond permitted hours. The establishment was located adjacent to a petrol bunk in the Channasandra area, raising concerns about compliance with local regulations.
SI Nagamma instructed her police jeep driver, Venugopal, to approach the hotel owner and request immediate closure of the business. The owner initially complied with the directive, but the situation escalated when a group of customers present at the hotel intervened.
Alleged Attempts to Assault and Obstruct Recording
The customers reportedly questioned the police action and allegedly attempted to physically assault driver Venugopal. As tensions mounted, SI Nagamma attempted to document the incident using her mobile phone to gather evidence of the confrontation.
The group then allegedly pushed the woman officer and prevented her from filming the altercation. Simultaneously, members of the group attempted to record the situation themselves, creating a chaotic scene that threatened to escalate further.
Intervention by Passersby Prevents Further Escalation
Fortunately, bystanders and passersby intervened at this critical moment, successfully calming both parties and preventing the situation from deteriorating into physical violence. Their timely intervention allowed police to regain control of the situation without additional incidents.
Based on the formal complaint filed by SI Nagamma, Chintamani Rural Police have registered a case against six individuals under relevant sections of the law pertaining to obstruction of a public servant in the discharge of official duties.
Broader Implications for Law Enforcement
This incident underscores the challenges faced by police personnel, particularly women officers, while performing routine patrol duties. It also highlights the importance of public cooperation with law enforcement officials during regulatory enforcement actions.
The case continues to be investigated by Chintamani Rural Police as they work to identify all individuals involved and gather additional evidence related to the alleged obstruction and attempted assault.
