Indore: Six members of an interstate criminal gang, who were allegedly planning to target a prominent jewellery shop in Chandni Chowk Sarafa area in Ratlam, have been arrested.
ASP Vivek Kumar said that the action was carried out by Station Road police following a tip-off that a group of armed men had gathered near Panchpeer Dargah on Unkala Road and were preparing to execute a major crime.
Acting on the information, police formed three teams and launched a coordinated operation. The teams surrounded the suspects and detained six men along with weapons and tools allegedly meant for use in the planned robbery.
According to police, the accused were conspiring to loot gold and silver ornaments from a jewellery establishment in Ratlam’s busy Sarafa market. Before they could execute the plan, officers intercepted them and recovered a sword, a sharp-edged falia, a rod, an iron crowbar, a wooden stick and a bag containing a slingshot, hydraulic cutter, spanners and screwdrivers.
Police registered a case under relevant sections of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act.
During verification through Integrated Criminal Justice System, investigators found that several of the arrested men had criminal records. One of the arrested persons, identified as Prabhat alias Chetan, was allegedly a reward-carrying suspect in a major dacoity case registered in Burhanpur’s Nepanagar area. Police also said that some of the arrested individuals were facing pending arrest warrants and permanent warrants in other cases.
The arrested persons have been identified as Kailash Mongia, 56, of Ashoknagar district; Mehr Singh alias Nehar Singh, 60, of Raisen; Namesh alias Soldier, 20, of Raisen; Prabhat alias Chetan, 27, of Raisen; Nikhil Mogia, 19, currently residing in Nagda and originally from Guna; and Vajood alias Angad, 29, of Ashoknagar district.
Police said another suspect, Dinesh Handa of Bajrang Nagar in Ratlam, allegedly conducted a recce of the Sarafa market and managed to escape under the cover of darkness during the operation. A search has been launched to trace him.
