Police Recover Slain Kabaddi Promoter's Pistol in Bathinda Robbery Arrest
In a significant breakthrough, Bathinda police have recovered a pistol belonging to the late kabaddi promoter Rana Balachauria, following the arrest of a man involved in a recent armed robbery. The weapon was allegedly stolen during the chaotic aftermath of Balachauria's murder at a kabaddi tournament in Sohana village, near Mohali, on December 15, 2025.
Arrest and Recovery Details
The action was initiated after Harpreet Singh of Romana Ajit Singh village filed a formal complaint on March 23. He reported that two men had robbed him of his motorcycle and mobile phone at gunpoint near Goniana Khurd village. Responding swiftly, police apprehended one of the suspects, identified as Gurmail Singh from Jandawala village.
During the investigation, authorities recovered a firearm used in the robbery. Bhucho DSP Pritpal Singh stated that Gurmail Singh confessed to stealing the pistol from the scene of Balachauria's killing. According to the DSP, Gurmail had been present in the audience watching the kabaddi tournament when shooters opened fire on the promoter. In the ensuing confusion, he seized the opportunity to snatch the weapon.

Rana Balachauria, a well-known figure in kabaddi circles, was tragically murdered during the tournament, an incident that sent shockwaves through the community.
