The Amritsar police have successfully dismantled a notorious snatching gang with the arrest of four individuals involved in a series of thefts and robberies across the city. The arrests were made following a coordinated operation based on intelligence inputs and surveillance.
Details of the Operation
Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap near the Golden Temple area, where the suspects were planning to execute another snatching. The four accused were apprehended without any resistance, and a cache of stolen items including mobile phones, wallets, and jewelry was recovered from their possession. Additionally, the police seized sharp-edged weapons and a motorcycle used in the crimes.
Modus Operandi
The gang targeted pedestrians and commuters, especially women, in crowded areas such as markets and bus stands. They would approach on a motorcycle, snatch valuables, and flee the scene swiftly. The police investigation revealed that the gang was active for the past six months and had committed over a dozen snatchings in various parts of the city.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amritsar stated, We have been monitoring the activities of this gang for some time. With the help of CCTV footage and informants, we were able to track their movements and arrest them. We urge citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and are interrogating the accused to uncover any other members of the gang and their involvement in other crimes. Further investigations are underway.
