Son kills mother for liquor money in Hardoi village

In a shocking and brutal incident from Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district, a 70-year-old woman was brutally murdered by her own son after she refused to give him money to purchase liquor. The gruesome event has sent waves of horror through the quiet village of Shironamnagar.

A Night of Horror in Shironamnagar Village

The victim has been identified as Shakuntala Devi, the widow of a late police constable, Avadh Bihari Agnihotri. She had been living in Delhi for the past few years with her two sons, Santosh and Chhote Bhaiya. Santosh, the accused, works as a labourer in the capital.

Shakuntala Devi had returned to her native village in the last week of November with her son Santosh for pension verification. Her husband's pension was deposited directly into her bank account. After completing the formalities, she decided to stay on in the village.

The Fatal Demand for Money

According to the police, the tragedy unfolded on Tuesday night. Santosh demanded money from his elderly mother specifically to buy alcohol. When Shakuntala Devi refused to comply with his demand, an enraged Santosh allegedly picked up a brick and smashed it on her head.

The attack was so vicious that it killed the elderly woman on the spot. Behta Gokul SHO Dharmendra Giri provided these harrowing details of the crime.

A Chilling Night and a Casual Revelation

What followed the murder is perhaps even more chilling. Instead of raising an alarm or fleeing, the accused son reportedly remained inside the house throughout the night. He lay next to the blood-soaked body of his mother until Wednesday morning.

It was only the next day that he stepped out of the house. In a calm and casual manner, he informed the villagers that his mother was dead. Startled by this news, the villagers immediately rushed inside the house. There, they discovered the grim scene: Shakuntala Devi's body lying in a pool of blood.

The local police were alerted and swiftly took Santosh into custody. The incident has left the entire community in a state of deep shock and mourning, raising serious questions about societal issues related to alcohol abuse and violence against the elderly.
