Sonipat Man Succumbs to Injuries After Violent Attack by Neighbors Over Mobile Phone
A tragic incident in Haryana's Sonipat district has resulted in the death of a 32-year-old man following a brutal assault by three neighbors, stemming from a dispute over a mobile phone. Police confirmed the details on Tuesday, revealing that the victim, identified as Kamaljeet from Panchi Jatan village in Ganaur, passed away on April 6 after nearly 12 days of medical treatment.
Details of the Fatal Altercation
According to a complaint filed by Kamaljeet's father, Jaipal, the incident occurred on March 24 when Kamaljeet visited his neighbor Ramdas's house to retrieve his mobile phone, which had been left there for charging. An argument erupted after the accused allegedly refused to return the device. Jaipal further alleged that Ramdas, along with accomplices Bhagwan Das and Sonu, tied Kamaljeet to a cot and viciously assaulted him with sticks and blunt objects, inflicting critical injuries.
Following the attack, Kamaljeet was initially taken to CHC Ganaur for emergency care but was later referred to BPS Medical College in Khanpur due to the severity of his condition. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on April 6, highlighting the extreme violence of the assault.
Police Investigation and Legal Action
Police reported that the family did not pursue legal action immediately after the incident, possibly due to the involvement of neighbors, but lodged a formal complaint following Kamaljeet's death. Consequently, a murder case has been registered against the three accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Authorities have launched raids to apprehend the suspects, who are currently absconding.
Bir Singh, the SHO of Ganaur police station, stated that preliminary investigations suggest both parties were under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the altercation. "No arrests have been made so far as the accused are absconding. Efforts are underway to apprehend them at the earliest," he emphasized. Additionally, the police are awaiting the post-mortem report, which will guide further legal actions based on its findings.
