Sonipat Murder Case: Suspect Arrested After Body Found Buried Near Yamuna
Police in Sonipat have made a significant arrest in a murder case that shocked the local community. Authorities discovered a man's body buried in a pit near the Yamuna riverbank. The victim has been identified as Sonu Sharma, a 29-year-old resident of Bega village in the Ganaur area.
Victim Disappeared While Buying Medicines
Sonu Sharma left his home on the evening of January 12 to purchase medicines. His family reported him missing when he failed to return. Police investigation revealed crucial CCTV footage showing Sharma drinking with a group of twelve youths on the Rakseda-Budhanpur road.
According to police statements, a verbal argument broke out among the group. The disagreement quickly escalated into a physical confrontation. During the fight, the accused individuals severely beat Sharma. They then used a sharp object to inflict deep wounds on his body.
Body Transported and Buried Near River
After the fatal assault, the perpetrators transported Sharma's body on a motorcycle. They took it to the Yamuna riverbank near Bega village. There, they buried the remains in a pit, attempting to conceal their crime.
Police conducted a thorough investigation that led them to the burial site. Officers exhumed the body in the presence of a duty magistrate and a Forensic Science Laboratory team. The remains were then sent to Khanpur Medical College for a detailed postmortem examination.
Suspect Confesses, More Arrests Expected
Authorities have arrested one suspect in connection with the murder. The arrested individual has confessed to his involvement in the crime. Police officials expressed confidence about making additional arrests in the coming days.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Rishikant provided an update on the investigation. He confirmed that police have identified other accused individuals. Special teams have been formed to locate and arrest them.
Victim Had Criminal History
Police records indicate that Sonu Sharma faced several criminal cases. In 2021, he and his associates were allegedly involved in a serious incident. They reportedly attacked the gunman of a chief judicial magistrate from Ganaur in Panipat. The attack involved the use of a knife.
