South Delhi Dowry Death: Husband Arrested

Husband Arrested in Dowry Death Case

Delhi Police on Monday arrested Arastu Sikka, the husband of a 28-year-old woman who died after allegedly jumping from the NDMC flats in Palika Kunj, south Delhi. A case under sections related to dowry death has been registered at Lodhi Colony police station, an official confirmed.

The deceased, identified as Akriti, a resident of Pushp Vihar, was found critically injured on Saturday after an alleged fall from the B-Block of the NDMC flats. She was employed as a sales executive at a private company in Chhatarpur.

Marriage Lasted Only Two and a Half Months

Akriti married Arastu Sikka on April 24 of this year, meaning the couple had been married for just about two and a half months at the time of her death. According to her relatives, the marriage was a love-cum-arranged union. Akriti initially became friends with Arastu's sister, Agastika Sikka, before entering into a relationship with Arastu, which eventually led to their marriage.

Family Alleges Dowry Harassment and Murder

Akriti's family has accused her husband and in-laws of harassing her for dowry and ultimately murdering her. They allege that an attempt is being made to portray the incident as a suicide in order to shield the accused. The family claimed that Akriti was subjected to physical abuse by her husband soon after the marriage and was continuously harassed over dowry demands.

“The family maintains that Akriti’s death occurred under highly suspicious circumstances and has demanded a fair and impartial investigation into the case,” a relative said.

Police Investigation Underway

Delhi Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to dowry death. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. The arrest of Arastu Sikka marks a significant step in the case, but the family continues to seek justice and a thorough probe.
