Visakhapatnam: The Srikakulam district police have formed a special team to apprehend the accused in a double murder case that has sent shockwaves through the region. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, involved the brutal killing of a tribal couple, Savara Illango (55) and his wife Savara Jyothi (50), in Chinarajapuram village under Kotturu mandal. The accused, identified as Savara Thotayya, allegedly attacked the couple with a sharp weapon over suspicions that they were practicing witchcraft.
Background of the Crime
Preliminary investigations have revealed that Thotayya’s two-year-old daughter has been suffering from some health issues for the past few months. Believing that Illango was using black magic to cause his daughter’s illness and slow recovery, Thotayya harbored a grudge against him and decided to eliminate him. On the day of the incident, Thotayya entered Illango’s house and attacked him with a sharp weapon. When Illango’s wife, Jyothi, attempted to rescue her husband, Thotayya turned on her as well, killing both of them before fleeing the scene.
Police Investigation and Manhunt
The police have registered a case and launched a massive manhunt for the accused. A special team has been constituted to track down Thotayya, who is believed to be hiding in the nearby forested areas. Authorities have deployed multiple teams and are using all available resources to apprehend him at the earliest. The deceased couple is survived by three children, who are now under the care of relatives.
The incident has highlighted the deep-rooted superstition and belief in witchcraft in some rural parts of the district. Police officials have urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the whereabouts of the accused.
