A video shared by the outlet on social media depicted sparks as the plane was in flight, followed by a safe landing back at the airport. The pilots later informed passengers that the aircraft had been struck by lightning, resulting in minor damage to an engine. As a precautionary measure, the flight abandoned its course to Sydney and returned to Colombo, where it landed without incident.
