SSB Head Constable Arrested in Kishanganj for Alleged Rape of Colleague's Teen Daughter
A shocking case has emerged from Kishanganj, Bihar, where a Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping the 14-year-old daughter of his fellow colleague. The accused, identified as 35-year-old Manchan Pawar, serves as a head constable with the 19th Battalion of the SSB, a paramilitary force responsible for border security.
Details of the Alleged Crime and Arrest
According to police reports, the incident unfolded on Saturday evening when the victim's father was away on duty, leaving the young girl alone at her residence. Taking advantage of this vulnerable situation, the accused allegedly entered the house and committed the heinous act before fleeing the scene. Law enforcement officials later tracked him down to a rented accommodation where he was attempting to hide, leading to his swift arrest.
Sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Manglesh Kumar Singh confirmed that a formal case has been registered under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. "No negligence will be tolerated in such cases," Singh stated emphatically. "The police are taking all possible steps to ensure the strictest punishment for the guilty."
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigations
Following his arrest, the accused was promptly sent to judicial custody on Sunday and is currently lodged in Kishanganj jail. Authorities have also completed critical procedural steps, including conducting a medical examination of the rape survivor and recording her official statement to build a robust case.
Police sources indicate that the investigation is being conducted with utmost thoroughness, examining all aspects such as:
- The accused's activities and movements at the time of the incident.
- Potential involvement of any other individuals in the crime.
- Background checks and behavioral patterns of the accused.
In addition to the criminal probe, an internal inquiry has been initiated at the SSB battalion level to assess any lapses or misconduct within the force. This dual approach underscores the seriousness with which authorities are treating the case, aiming for justice and accountability on both legal and institutional fronts.
