A student pursuing a laboratory technician course was discovered hanging in his rented accommodation under the Buddha Colony police station area of Patna on the night of June 5. The incident came to light after the victim's father lodged a written complaint with the police on Saturday, expressing suspicions regarding the alleged suicide. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is currently underway.
Victim Identification and Background
The deceased has been identified as Guddu Raja, a native of Muzaffarpur district. He was enrolled in the 2025-27 batch of the laboratory technician course within the ophthalmology department of Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH). Guddu resided in a rented property owned by Hira Chandra Jha, located near Gauraiya Sthan.
Recovery of Suicide Note
A suicide note was recovered from the room, containing the line, "My journey ends here." In a longer message addressed to his parents, Guddu wrote that he would always remain with them and asked them to remember his friend Aniket whenever they felt his absence. He also requested Aniket to support his parents, particularly in meeting their medical needs.
Police Investigation
Police officials stated that the exact cause of death will be determined following the postmortem examination. Buddha Colony Station House Officer (SHO) Vinod Kumar Singh said, "We are investigating the matter based on the complaint filed by the deceased's family. The landlord and one of the deceased's friends are being questioned. The postmortem report is awaited to ascertain the exact cause of death."
Family Allegations
Family members have alleged foul play and claimed that the death is being portrayed as a suicide. Guddu's father, Naresh Rai, a government school teacher, stated, "My son returned to Patna on June 4 after attending his sister's wedding on May 13. Guddu was the only brother among five sisters. I was informed about his death by the landlord nearly 24 hours after the incident."
Rai further alleged that his son had financial dealings with two friends, Aniket and Neeraj, and had lent them approximately Rs 4 lakh, which they were allegedly avoiding repaying. He claimed that the two friends, along with the landlord, conspired to kill his son. According to Rai, Aniket, a native of Madhubani whose mother works as a nurse in Patna, had borrowed money from Guddu about two months ago, citing delayed salary payments. He added that Neeraj, also from Madhubani, is employed at IGIMS.
Ongoing Investigation
The police are continuing their investigation, questioning the landlord and the deceased's friends. The postmortem report is awaited to confirm the cause of death. Authorities have assured that all aspects of the case will be thoroughly examined.
