Police Recover Charred Body of Student in Paralakhemundi, Suspect Self-Immolation
In a tragic incident, police on Saturday recovered the charred body of a 24-year-old woman from her residence at Paralakhemundi in Gajapati district. The victim has been identified as Subhra Samal, a student pursuing MSc in botany at SKCG College in Paralakhemundi. Her father, B C Samal, is a retired school teacher.
Investigation Underway with No Clear Motive
While police suspect she might have self-immolated, no reason has been found for such an extreme step. Inspector Prasant Bhupati, in-charge of Paralakhemundi police station, stated on Sunday that searches of her mobile phones and notebooks yielded no clues. "We have searched her mobile phones and the notebooks but could not find any clues behind the self-immolation," Bhupati said.
Her father had stepped out to take a bath and returned after being alerted by a neighbor. During the investigation, family members reported no enmity or affairs, describing Subhra as a meritorious student. She was preparing for UPSC exams, with her last semester examination scheduled for April 9.

The incident has shocked the local community, with police continuing to probe all angles. Authorities are examining potential personal or academic stressors, but so far, the case remains mysterious. The recovery of the body highlights concerns over mental health and safety in the region.
This event underscores the need for greater awareness and support systems for students facing pressure. As the investigation progresses, more details may emerge to clarify the circumstances surrounding this unfortunate death.
