The court of the senior civil judge and JMFC in Sullia, Mangaluru, has delivered its verdict in a case involving theft and escape from police custody. The accused, AM Azeez, a resident of Ajjavara in Sullia, was found guilty of charges under Sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to theft, as well as Section 224 IPC for escaping lawful custody.
Details of the Sentencing
Presiding Judge Damayanthi pronounced the sentence after a thorough hearing. Under Section 224 IPC (escape from lawful custody), the court sentenced Azeez to one year of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional 45 days of simple imprisonment.
Charges Under Sections 457 and 380 IPC
For the charge under Section 457 IPC (lurking house trespass or housebreaking by night), the accused received a sentence of three years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Non-payment of the fine will lead to an extra 45 days of simple imprisonment.
Similarly, under Section 380 IPC (theft in a dwelling house), the court sentenced him to three years of simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000, with the same default penalty of 45 days of simple imprisonment.
The cases were registered at Sullia police station, and the trial concluded with the court finding Azeez guilty on all counts. The sentences will run concurrently, and the fines amount to a total of Rs 15,000.
