Surat Businessman Loses Rs 2.5 Lakh in Swift Car Theft While Buying Paan
A shocking incident of theft unfolded in Surat when a readymade apparel showroom owner lost a substantial sum of Rs 2.5 lakh in cash from his luxury car. The theft occurred within mere seconds as the owner made a brief stop at a paan parlour on April 14, leaving his vehicle running unattended.
Details of the Theft Incident
The victim, identified as Kamlesh Nenwani, 35, who owns a garments and footwear shop near Madhuvan Circle, was on his way to his business when the incident took place. He parked his car on the road in front of Ganesh Paan Parlour, located opposite a petrol pump near LP Savani Circle. Intending to return quickly, Nenwani left the car running and stepped into the shop to purchase a few items.
Upon his return, he was met with a distressing sight: the under-armrest compartment of his car was open, and the Rs 2,50,000 in cash kept inside was missing. It became clear that someone had seized the opportunity to open the car door and steal the money in a matter of seconds. Nenwani immediately scanned the area but could not spot any suspicious individuals.
Police Investigation and Delayed Complaint
Due to pressing work commitments, Nenwani could not approach the police immediately after the theft. It was only on Monday that a formal theft complaint was lodged with the Adajan police station. The authorities have since registered the case and launched an investigation.
Police are actively scanning CCTV footage from Ganesh Paan Parlour and nearby offices and residential societies to trace the accused. This footage is crucial in identifying the perpetrator and understanding the sequence of events during the theft.
Broader Implications and Safety Advice
This incident highlights the risks associated with leaving vehicles running unattended, even for short durations. In urban areas like Surat, such opportunistic crimes can occur swiftly, emphasizing the need for heightened vigilance among citizens.
Authorities urge the public to avoid leaving valuables in cars and to always lock vehicles, even during brief stops. The investigation is ongoing, with police hopeful that the CCTV evidence will lead to a breakthrough in the case.
