Surat School Violence: Class 9 Student Stabbed by Minors After Function

In a disturbing incident of juvenile violence outside an educational institution in Gujarat, a Class 9 student was brutally attacked and stabbed by four minors near Galaxy Army International School in Surat's Pandesara area. The assault occurred around 8:30 PM on Sunday evening, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Violent Confrontation After School Event

According to police officials, the victim had attended a school function with his younger sister when tensions escalated during a dance event. A friend of the victim reportedly got into an altercation with another student inside the school premises. The conflict quickly spilled outside the campus, where four individuals from the opposing student's side confronted and challenged the victim.

Assistant Commissioner of Police V R Malhotra provided detailed insights into the sequence of events: "The victim went to attend a school function on Sunday night with his younger sister. During the programme, a friend of the victim's fought with another student during the dance event. The matter moved outside the campus, as the four persons from the other student's side challenged the victim."

Stabbing with Online-Purchased Weapon

The confrontation turned violent when the four minors assaulted the victim, with one of them producing a knife and stabbing him multiple times. Police investigations revealed that the weapon used in the attack had been purchased online approximately two months earlier, raising concerns about easy access to dangerous items by minors.

"They assaulted him and one of them stabbed him with a knife, which he had bought online two months earlier," confirmed ACP Malhotra, highlighting the premeditated nature of the weapon's acquisition.

Police Response and Detentions

Pandesara police acted swiftly, detaining all four minors involved in the attack. The accused have been booked under charges of voluntarily causing hurt with a dangerous weapon. Interestingly, among the detained minors was a student who had a Class 10 board examination scheduled for Monday.

Pandesara police inspector J R Chaudhary explained the consideration given to academic commitments: "Of the four accused, one had a Class 10 board exam on Monday. We allowed him to take the exam, after which he was detained."

Background of the Accused

Police investigations uncovered that two of the four accused minors study at the victim's school, Galaxy Army International School, while the other two attend Gaurav School in the same Pandesara area. The minor who wielded the knife had reportedly dropped out of school during Class 9, adding another dimension to the case.

The violence appears to have been triggered by an earlier incident inside the school where a teacher had scolded one of the accused students. Angered by this reprimand, the student called two friends to the school premises. When the victim exited the function, they intercepted him, leading to the physical confrontation that culminated in the stabbing.

Medical Treatment and Injuries

The victim sustained serious stab wounds to his stomach and back during the attack. He was immediately rushed to New Civil Hospital for emergency medical treatment. The severity of the injuries underscores the dangerous escalation of what began as a schoolyard disagreement.

This incident marks another concerning episode of violence involving minors in educational settings in Gujarat, raising urgent questions about student safety, conflict resolution mechanisms in schools, and the accessibility of weapons to young people through online platforms.
