Young Doctor's Life Cut Short in Tragic Hit-and-Run
A promising medical career was tragically cut short in Surat this week. Dr. Shefali Kalaigar, a 26-year-old resident doctor in the paediatrics department at the New Civil Hospital, died on Wednesday night from injuries suffered in a road accident. The incident, a hit-and-run, occurred on Monday afternoon while she was returning home from work.
Details of the Fatal Accident
The tragedy unfolded around 4 pm on Monday. Dr. Kalaigar was descending the Sahara Gate bridge on her scooter, near the agricultural market opposite Sahara Gate. According to initial reports, an unknown vehicle hit her scooter, causing severe injuries. The driver of the vehicle did not stop and fled the scene, leaving the young doctor critically hurt on the road.
She was first rushed to SMIMER Hospital for emergency treatment. Later, in a bid to save her life, she was shifted to a private hospital. Despite medical efforts, Shefali Kalaigar succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday night.
Family and Police Investigation
Dr. Kalaigar was a resident of Kansara Sheri in Mahidharpura. Her family includes her father, who works as an LIC agent, and a brother who is currently studying in Canada. The sudden loss has left the family and the medical community in deep mourning.
The Mahidharpura police have registered a case of unnatural death and have launched a search operation to trace the unidentified driver responsible for the accident. The investigation is ongoing as authorities scour for evidence and witnesses to bring the culprit to justice.
