The detection of crime branch (DCB) of Surat police has solved the murder of a 25-year-old man in Puna and arrested four persons, including the husband of the victim's lover.
Police said the victim, Karan Vaghela, was allegedly murdered by Ajit Vaghela, the husband of the woman with whom he was having an affair. Ajit was aided by his father-in-law and two relatives in carrying out the attack.
Incident Details
Deputy commissioner of police (crime branch) Bhavesh Roziya said Karan was attacked and killed outside Puna Garden on Thursday evening. During the investigation, police found that Karan was in a relationship with the wife of his cousin, Ajit Vaghela.
“The families had a major row at their native village, Budhana in Bhavnagar district, a few days before the murder. To avoid further confrontations with Karan, Ajit had shifted to Surat and was staying at his father-in-law Jayanti Parmar’s house. However, Karan followed the woman to Surat. When Ajit learnt about his presence in the city, he, along with his father-in-law and two relatives, allegedly planned and executed the murder,” Roziya said.
Sequence of Events
According to police, Karan had arrived in Surat a day before the incident. A relative informed Ajit about his arrival, leading him to fear that Karan might either attack him or elope with his wife.
Police said Ajit’s friend, Rahul Parmar (24), spotted Karan near Puna Garden on Thursday evening and alerted him. Soon after, Ajit Vaghela (20), his father-in-law Jayanti Parmar (45), relative Veer Vaghela (27) and Rahul allegedly reached the spot and attacked Karan with a knife, iron pipe and sticks.
Karan sustained severe injuries and died on the spot before he could receive medical assistance.
Arrests and Investigation
The four accused were arrested from Surat, Bhavnagar and Amreli districts. Police said further investigation is underway to ascertain whether any other person was involved in the conspiracy or execution of the crime.
