Surat Police Rescue Businessman, Arrest 5 in Abduction Linked to Payment Dispute

In a swift operation, the Pandesara police in Surat arrested five men on Wednesday for allegedly abducting a local businessman from his industrial unit. The dramatic incident, which unfolded in the Pandesara GIDC area, appears to be linked to a financial dispute over unpaid dues for plastic granules.

Details of the Abduction Incident

According to police reports, the victim, Prashant Sarvaiya, who operates a plastic granules business, was at his first-floor office in Pandesara GIDC on Wednesday morning. The accused individuals—identified as Soyeb Akhtar Momin (28), Vasim Ahmed Shaikh (31), Asfaq Ansari (30), Mohammad Jan Ansari (31), and Abdul Ansari (42)—all residents of Malegaon, arrived at the unit in a Maharashtra-registered SUV.

The men confronted Sarvaiya in his office, where they began assaulting him. They then forcibly dragged him to the ground floor while continuing to beat him. The assailants reportedly abused and threatened the businessman before bundling him into their vehicle and fleeing the scene.

Swift Police Response and Rescue Operation

An alert employee at the unit, Prince Gurjar, immediately informed Sarvaiya's son, Nishit, and also contacted the police emergency helpline 112. Police teams promptly arrived at the location to gather initial details.

Pandesara police inspector J R Chaudhary stated, "We learned that the accused were from Malegaon and quickly alerted toll plazas as well as Tapi police, anticipating they might take that route to return to their native place."

Acting on this alert, the Local Crime Branch (LCB) of Tapi district intercepted the vehicle at a toll plaza. The police successfully rescued Sarvaiya and apprehended all five accused individuals without further incident.

Payment Dispute Emerges as Motive

Preliminary investigation by authorities suggests the abduction stemmed from a payment disagreement. Police revealed that Sarvaiya had purchased plastic granules from the accused but refused to make the full payment, alleging that the supplied material was of inferior quality.

The pending amount in question was approximately Rs 4 lakh. Inspector Chaudhary added, "This appears to have triggered the incident, though we are thoroughly probing if any other angle is involved in this case."
