Surat Woman Faces Charges for Extorting Diamond Artisan Using Intimate Video Threats

In a disturbing case of blackmail and coercion, the Puna police in Surat have officially registered a case against a woman for allegedly extorting a substantial sum of Rs 2.59 lakh from a 33-year-old diamond worker. The primary accusation revolves around the accused threatening to make intimate videos viral as a means to intimidate and financially exploit the victim.

Details of the Alleged Extortion Scheme

According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed with the authorities, the complainant works as a diamond artisan in the Kapodra area of Surat. He resides in the city with his wife and their five-year-old child. The troubling sequence of events began in 2023 when the victim met the accused woman, who lived in an apartment directly opposite his workplace at a diamond unit in Kapodra.

Initial Contact and Relationship Development

On April 3, 2023, the woman initiated contact by calling the diamond worker and requesting a meeting at a nearby temple. Following this initial encounter, they exchanged phone numbers and commenced regular communication. Over time, their interactions evolved into a personal relationship.

On April 18, 2023, they allegedly engaged in physical relations in a room located in Kapodra. Throughout this period, the complainant reportedly spent money on shopping and other necessities for the accused woman. He also transferred funds to her via UPI payments whenever she made such requests.

Escalation of Threats and Financial Demands

The FIR further details that the couple had physical relations on multiple other occasions, including during a trip in a sleeper coach to their native place in Saurashtra and at her residence in Kapodra. However, the situation took a sinister turn when the complainant discovered that the woman was simultaneously involved in a relationship with another man and had borrowed money from him as well.

After the diamond worker ceased sending her money, the accused allegedly threatened to file a rape complaint against him if he did not continue making payments. When he refused to comply, she proceeded to file an application with the Mendarada police in Junagadh district. Although a temporary compromise was reached, she persistently demanded money and continued to threaten him with legal repercussions.

Intimidation Tactics and Further Legal Action

The woman escalated her threats by warning the complainant that she would inform his family members and make their private photos and videos public if he failed to pay. Upon his refusal, she allegedly sent photographs to his brother-in-law. Subsequently, in 2025, she filed a rape complaint with the Kapodra police.

Following this development, the victim conducted his own inquiries in Surat and at his native place. He allegedly uncovered that the woman had trapped several other men using similar tactics to extort money. The complainant also asserted that her husband and a friend were actively involved in this conspiracy.

Police Investigation and Legal Charges

In response to these serious allegations, the Puna police have officially booked the woman, along with her husband and the friend, under multiple charges. These include conspiracy, extortion, and criminal intimidation. A comprehensive investigation into the case is currently underway to uncover the full extent of the alleged criminal activities.

This case highlights the severe consequences of digital blackmail and the importance of legal recourse in protecting individuals from such exploitative schemes.
