The body of a 57-year-old woman was discovered near Kosad Awas in the Amroli police station jurisdiction of Surat on Wednesday morning. The grim find was made after a Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) sanitation worker, while cleaning the roadside, noticed a stinking bag and immediately alerted the authorities.

Discovery and Initial Response

Upon receiving the alert, police rushed to the scene and opened the bag, revealing the deceased woman. The Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) police swiftly detained a couple of suspects and launched a joint inquiry with the Amroli police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.

Victim Identified as Missing Woman

The victim has been identified as Hamida Khatun, a resident of the H-2 block in Kosad. She lived with her two sons in Surat, having moved from Samastipur district in Bihar for work. Her son, Pravekh Alam, aged 24, had filed a missing person's complaint earlier, stating that Khatun left for the market on Tuesday morning and failed to return home.

Police were actively tracing her whereabouts when the bag containing the body was found. The clothes on the body matched the description provided in the missing person's report, leading to a positive identification.

Murder Case Filed and Investigation Underway

Amroli police have registered a murder case and are conducting a thorough investigation. DCB officers arrived at the spot and reviewed CCTV footage from the area, which helped them identify potential suspects. According to DCB sources, the case may be linked to a family feud, and officers are probing whether any family member was involved in the crime.

The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine the motive and exact sequence of events. Authorities have emphasized that all angles are being explored to ensure justice is served.
