Security Forces Recover Sophisticated Drone Near Pakistan Border
In a significant security development, the Sam police on Saturday recovered a high-tech drone from a sand dune near Lakhmana settlement in Jaisalmer district. The recovery location sits approximately 40 kilometers from the Pakistan border, raising immediate security concerns among authorities.
The discovery has prompted a joint investigation by local police and the Border Security Force (BSF), with preliminary findings suggesting the unmanned aerial vehicle might have originated from across the international border. Security agencies are examining whether the drone was deployed for surveillance or other illegal purposes.
Drone Specifications Raise Suspicious
Jaisalmer Superintendent of Police Abhishek Shivhare confirmed that security agencies at the local level, including the Army and BSF, have been notified about the recovered drone. The preliminary examination revealed several unusual features that distinguish it from commercial drones.
The recovered drone measures 34 centimeters in length and 29 centimeters in width, with a weight exceeding 1 kilogram. Most notably, the device is equipped with two cameras, unlike typical drones used for wedding photography or tourist activities that generally feature only one camera.
Police officials noted that the drone's size is considerably larger than those commonly used for recreational or commercial purposes in India. The unusual dual-camera configuration has particularly drawn the attention of investigating agencies.
Possible Espionage and Security Implications
Security experts familiar with the investigation have expressed serious concerns about the drone's potential purposes. They indicated that drones with such specifications are often utilized for carrying narcotics or lightweight materials across borders.
The possibility of the drone being deployed for espionage activities against India cannot be dismissed, according to security personnel involved in the case. The investigation is exploring all angles, including whether the device was used for film shooting or other purposes, though the border proximity and technical specifications suggest more sinister intentions.
Authorities have emphasized that such large drones are not typically used by the Indian Army or Air Force, strengthening the theory about cross-border origins. The recovery has heightened alertness along the border regions, with security agencies intensifying surveillance measures to prevent similar incidents.
The investigation continues as forensic experts examine the drone's memory cards and technical components to determine its exact origin and mission objectives.
